International Internships and Externships
  The AAPI Externship Program is currently undergoing major changes.  We are looking to reorganize the program to make this an intensive hands-on clinical one month experience for our applicants.  Please check the  website regularly for updates.

This will be a year round program and the application should be sent at least 8 weeks before their expected date of start of the rotation. Application should be sent to the MSRF Community Service Chair at

  • Dr. Samir Shah received a scholarship from AAPI in 2007.  Read about his experiences at the Aravind Eye Institute in Madurai, Tamil Nadu 
  • Kinjal Shah, third year medical student at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, received a Scholarship in 2011.  Read about her experiences learning medicine in a rural (Bidada), semirural (Vyara), and an urban (Bardoli) setting .
  • Dr. Amit Sharma, recent graduate of the New Jersey medical school as part of the BA/MD program, spent one month in 2011 at the the Dermatology Department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.  Read about his experiences.
  • Dr. Ankita Sagar recently returned from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigargh.  Read about her rotation in 2011 through the department of medicine .
  • Dr. Neil Aggarwal, in December 2010 and January 2011, traveled to India for two psychiatric rotations at Sangath in Goa and Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Amritsar. Read about his experiences .
  • Second year medical student, Swarup Swaminathan, was able to conduct a study at the Aravind Eye Hospital.  He compared the performance of satellite centers newly equipped with surgical equipment and non-surgical centers that have existed for several years.  Read about his analysis and experience .
